Abstract
This study aimed to understand the attitudinal barriers experienced by people with disabilities in interpersonal relations with the non-disabled, and the underlying perceptions. Seven adult men and women with disabilities with physical and brain lesions were interviewed in-depth and analyzed by the subject analysis method suggested by Braun & Clarke (2006). As a result of the analysis, under the two upper categories, ¡®negative attitude and behavior of the non-disabled experienced by people with disabilities¡¯ and ¡®perceptions of people with disabilities inherent in the negative attitude of the non-disabled¡¯, a total of 7 subcategories and 14 themes were derived. This study is meaningful in that it explored what negative attitudes and social perceptions the physically disabled experience in social relationships with the non-disabled and how they interpret these experiences from their own perspectives. Based on the results, the study suggested that more emphasis should be placed on human rights perspectives to recognize the physical differences of the disabled but to respect and guarantee rights as equal persons.
